Who we are

Osmenta (“Osmenta”, “we”, “us”) provides a private tutoring management app that connects tutors with their students and the students’ parents or guardians. This policy explains what information we collect, why, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to our website, progressive web app, and mobile apps (together, the “Service”).

A note about children and students

Osmenta is built around tutoring, so the Service contains information about students, who are often under 18 and may be under 13. Student accounts are created through an invite code issued by a tutor, and are intended to be set up with the involvement of a parent, guardian, or the tutor. Learning records about a student (lesson notes, scores, homework, goals) are created by the tutor.

We do not knowingly use a student’s information for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell personal information. Where required by laws such as the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) or the UK/EU GDPR provisions on children’s data, the tutor and the parent/guardian are responsible for obtaining any consent needed before a student uses the Service. A parent, guardian, or tutor may review, correct, or request deletion of a student’s information by contacting us at privacy@osmenta.com or by using the in-app account deletion control.

Information we collect

  • Account information. Your email address, a display name, your role (tutor, student, or parent), and whether you signed up with a password or with Google.
  • Tutoring records. Content created within a tutoring group, including lesson logs (progress and homework notes, comprehension and participation scores), coaching comments, homework items, goals, and scheduled class sessions.
  • Preferences. Settings such as your notification choices, dashboard layout, and onboarding status.
  • Push notification identifiers. If you enable notifications, the device or browser push token needed to deliver them.
  • Billing information. If a tutor subscribes to a paid plan on the web, our payment processor (Stripe) handles the card details; we store only a customer and subscription reference and the resulting plan status. We do not store full card numbers.
  • Technical data. Basic information your device sends automatically, such as IP address and app or browser version, used to operate and secure the Service.

How we use information

  • To provide the Service — accounts, tutoring groups, lessons, goals, and scheduling.
  • To send notifications you have enabled (for example, a new lesson log or a cancelled class).
  • To process subscriptions and manage plan access for paying tutors.
  • To secure the Service, prevent abuse, and troubleshoot problems.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

How information is shared

Data is visible only within your own tutoring group: a tutor, their student, and that student’s parent see the records for that group, subject to role limits (for example, comments a tutor writes for a parent are not shown to the student, and vice versa). We share information with service providers who process it on our behalf:

  • Supabase — database, authentication, and hosting of your data.
  • Vercel — application hosting and delivery.
  • Stripe — payment processing for web subscriptions.
  • Apple Push Notification service and web push services — delivering notifications.
  • Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the Service.

Data retention and deletion

We keep information for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from the in-app profile settings; deletion signs you out immediately and the associated data is scheduled for permanent removal within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal or accounting obligations. You may also request deletion by emailing privacy@osmenta.com.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, use the in-app controls or contact us at privacy@osmenta.com. For a student’s information, a parent, guardian, or the tutor may make the request.

Security and international transfers

Access to data is restricted so that users can only reach records in their own tutoring groups, enforced at the database level. Our providers may process and store data in countries other than yours; where they do, they are contractually bound to protect it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information using appropriate technical and organisational measures.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and, where appropriate, notify you within the Service.
